Also, the Stonewall uprising was not the start of gay rights, nor was it the "first Pride". You can find recorded interviews with Marsha/Malcom online clarifying this. Marsha P Johnson was at the Stonewall Inn when the riot broke out, so certainly didn't start it, and was a gay man / drag queen, not a "transwoman". Please don't think that those who are asking you to are doing so in our name.ħ) Don't misrepresent gay history by perpetuating myths that say someone wasn't the sex they actually were, or are just plain false. Gay men and lesbians are not asking you to give up any boundaries.

Don't allow males who proclaim to be women into spaces that are protected as single sex spaces for females, be that toilets, changing rooms, competitions and award, networks, or quotas set aside for women. Women's boundaries are not yours to give away (and I'm speaking to women here as much as men). The ever-extending acronym is heading in more and more dangerous directions for the sake of identity politics.Ħ) Don't give away other people's rights because you want to look "progressive" or "inclusive".
WHEN DID THE GAY PRIDE FLAG START SKIN
You wouldn't use "BAME" to lump together very different groups of people with different ethnicities or skin colours, so stop the forced-teaming of sexual orientation with gender identity. There is not one homogenous group of people. Consider whether you would use the N-word in a similar way when talking about black people.ĥ) And while we're on "things you wouldn't do when it comes to race", don't use "LGBTQ+". When Millenials and Gen Z say they've 'reclaimed' it, they are not speaking for the generations of gay men in particular who were on the receiving end of the bullying and abuse that comes along with that word. That's just cowardly virtue signalling.Ĥ) Don't say or use "Queer". (Yes, the original also had a pink stripe and a turquoise stripe, but go and look up the two weirdly practical reasons why they were dropped early on).ģ) Don't slap a rainbow on the "western" versions/regions of your logo but leave the versions for the Middle East, China, Russia, and most of Africa unchanged. The standard flag with six colours covers all you need for Pride. That's just empty virtue signalling.Ģ) And while we're on rainbows, stop using the "progress flag" with the extra colours pointing in from one side, pushing the rainbow flag colours out. As we're well into Pride Month, I'm sharing some thoughts on what individuals and companies can do (or not do) that would actually be helpful:ġ) Don't just slap a rainbow on your logo and think that's enough.
